Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
A treatment made from a small sample of your own blood.
Service Description
**Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy** Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, uses a small amount of your own blood. After the blood is drawn, it's processed to concentrate the platelets, a part of your blood that contains growth factors. The concentrated platelets are then injected into or applied to the area being treated. **How PRP Works**: 1. **Blood Collection**: We draw a small amount of blood from your arm, similar to a routine blood test. 2. **Centrifugation**: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins it at high speed to separate the plasma and platelets from the red and white blood cells. 3. **Application**: The concentrated PRP is injected into or applied to the treatment area, depending on what's being treated. **Uses of PRP**: - Skin treatments on the face and skin. - Hair treatments for people experiencing thinning hair. **Benefits**: Because PRP is made from your own blood, there's a low risk of an allergic reaction to the material itself. **What to expect, including risks** PRP involves injections, so some discomfort is normal. Common after-effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising at the treated sites, which usually settle over a few days. As with any injection, there's a risk of infection and, less commonly, bleeding or small lumps under the skin. Results aren't guaranteed, they vary from one person to the next, and more than one session is often needed. We'll talk through the risks, the likely recovery and whether PRP is suitable for you at your consultation. This service is provided by Ann Butler (NMW0001454416), Registered Nurse (Division 1), Nurse Practitioner.
