HIFU, or high-intensity focused ultrasound, is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment. It uses focused ultrasound energy to deliver heat to layers beneath the surface of the skin, without breaking the skin. It's used to firm and tighten the skin, and we offer it for the face and neck. How it works Ultrasound energy: The device directs focused ultrasound to set depths beneath the skin's surface. Heat: The energy warms those deeper layers, and any change develops gradually over a number of weeks. What the treatment involves Consultation: We assess your skin, talk through what you'd like to address and whether the treatment suits you, and explain the risks and aftercare. Treatment: We move the device over the treatment area, delivering the ultrasound energy to the set depths. Aftercare: We give you aftercare instructions. What to expect, including risks HIFU delivers heat beneath the skin, so there are some things to expect and consider: Discomfort: The treatment can be uncomfortable or briefly painful while the energy is delivered. Common after-effects: Redness, swelling, tingling or tenderness can occur and usually settle within a short time. Temporary numbness or small areas of altered sensation can also happen. Less common effects: As with any energy-based treatment, there's a small risk of burns, nerve irritation or uneven results. Suitability: It's not suitable for everyone, including people with certain medical conditions, people with metal implants in the treatment area, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Results vary from one person to the next, and aren't guaranteed. We'll go through the risks, the recovery and whether HIFU suits you at your consultation.
