Platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, is a treatment made from a small sample of your own blood. After the blood is drawn, it's processed to produce a concentrate of platelets, white blood cells and fibrin, a protein your body uses in clotting and healing. The concentrate is then injected into or applied to the area being treated. PRF contains growth factors, which are part of the body's normal healing response. We use PRF in aesthetic treatments for concerns such as fine lines and skin texture, and, for some people, thinning hair. ([VERIFY] do they offer PRF for hair?) It's a non-surgical option. Because PRF is made from your own blood, there's a low risk of an allergic reaction to the material itself. What to expect, including risks PRF involves injections, so some discomfort is normal. Risks and things to consider include: Side effects: Redness, swelling or bruising at the injection sites, and temporary tenderness or discomfort in the treated area. Infection: As with any injection, there's a small risk of infection at the injection site. Allergic reactions: Even though PRF is made from your own blood, there's a small risk of reaction to the materials or equipment used during the procedure. Uneven results: Results vary from one person to the next, and some people see less noticeable improvement or uneven texture. Temporary effects: PRF results aren't permanent, and more than one session is often needed to reach and maintain the result you're after. Contraindications: PRF may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions, such as blood disorders, active infections, or those taking blood-thinning medication.
