A PDO thread treatment uses polydioxanone (PDO) threads, a dissolvable surgical suture material, placed under the skin. We offer it for the appearance of the nose. The threads dissolve over time, and the treatment is sometimes repeated. How it works The threads are introduced under the skin and provide some support to the tissue, and their presence also prompts the skin's natural healing response. Some threads are smooth and others have small barbs that anchor into the tissue. Before your treatment Tell us about any medicines and supplements you take, including aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil and green tea extract, as some can increase bruising. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without medical advice. We'll give you specific instructions at your consultation. What to expect, including risks Consultation: We assess your nose and health history, explain whether the treatment is suitable, and go over the risks and recovery. Recovery: Swelling and bruising are common for the first day or two. To avoid dislodging the threads, avoid rubbing or pressing on the area, and you'll be advised to avoid resting glasses on the bridge, side-sleeping, intense exercise and saunas for a period afterwards. Risks: These can include infection, pain or tenderness, visible or palpable threads, threads moving or working their way out, dimpling, puckering or unevenness, and nerve irritation. The nose is a higher-risk area, and there is a rare but serious risk of restricted blood supply that can damage the skin. Results vary from one person to the next and aren't guaranteed. Suitability: Not suitable for everyone, including people with certain medical conditions or active infection, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
